I have a few ideas about teaching literacy. I did a little research on the subject and it seems that there are activities that teachers can employ to help their students. Google with a little help from its friends has started a literacy program. You can search all kinds of books for free right here. They have books that you can view partial pages and books where you can view the entire book. You can even search and read literacy blogs like this one.

Health Care and Reading

An interesting program called Reach Out and Read uses doctors and nurses to help children read. This program won the 2008 Social Capitalist Award and it was featured on NBC nightly news. I think it is a great idea to put books in childrens hands when they visit the doctors office. Its a great way to make a lasting connection. Visit their site here: http://www.reachoutandread.org/
